November meeting,
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024
6:30 PM
Rogers County Building
416 S. Brady St.
Claremore
OUR NOVEMBER MEETING will be on the Wednesday of the week before Thanksgiving. Check back here or on Facebook for more info.
Will Rogers Day Parade fun but damp
The Will Rogers Day parade could have used better weather, but we soldiered through, decorated Rick Tinkler’s pickup with bunting and campaign signs, gave out candy and candidate literature and actually had a pretty good time I think! I know that if I had just walked that distance myself it would have been exhausting, but walking with a parade even in the rain made it more tolerable. Hopefully we’ll have better luck for Veteran’s Day on November 11.
OFFICE HOURS and OFFICE ADDRESS:
Beginning Monday, Sept. 16 and continuing through Election Day, we will be open regular hours at our office at

June meeting, first since tornado, goes well
Our June meeting went well with a good turnout. Our engaging speakers, Independent Candidate for State Senate District 3 Margaret Cook and RSU Professor of Political Science Ken Hicks kept the audience engaged although we tried to wrap up early for the Presidential Debate.
Professor Hicks spoke on his upcoming book, American Kulturkampf, a treatise on the political underpinnings of how a nation’s culture is created. He has generously shared his PowerPoint presentation which we will be posting here shortly.
We also discussed our upcoming events, which you can see in our latest post.
May meeting cancelled, website update stalled due to tornado
Our May meeting was cancelled without notice and this post is only being made on the day of our June meeting. Apologies for the delay in updates!
April meeting features speaker on
Christian Nationalism
Our April meeting was a great success, with guest speaker Rev. Elizabeth Grasham of First Christian Church of Nowata speaking on the ever-present danger of Christian Nationalism. Linking phenomena such as Manifest Destiny, the Ku Klux Klan and the Tea Party, Rev. Grasham made crystal clear what has been often unstated but perfectly obvious in the history of this country, the link between white racism and a twisted version of christianity.
It was interesting to note on Facebook that Rev. Kelley Becker spoke on the same subject to the Washington County Democrats on the same night. This is a truly heartening sign of a real full-court press and one that we should all support!
It was also announced that Rogers County Democratic Party Vice-Chair Paula Strickland will be an official OK Democratic Delegate to the national convention in Chicago.
State Democratic Party Convention
is a huge success!
On Saturday Apr. 6, in Ardmore, OK, the OK State Democratic Party redeclared their intention to make the party matter once more in this state. There was great positive energy in the hall, with over 300 dedicated Dems caucusing through many rounds of voting to select our delegation to Chicago in August.

March meeting features CD1 Candidate Dennis Baker
Our March meeting was well attended and pleased to welcome CD1 Candidate Dennis Baker. He’s running an energetic campaign and it’s always a pleasure to hear him speak about a real vision for Oklahoma.
Thanks Dennis and to all the attendees, who are what the Democratic Party is all about!
Combination Communications Committee and Outreach Committee meeting sets course for the coming year
On March 16 we had a very successful meeting at our downtown Claremore office at 106 S. Cherokee Ave. to discuss election-centric strategies for the coming season. Present were County Chair Gerry Mooney, Vice-chair Paula Strickland, Secretary Sue Lamb, AA Officer Kathleen Hill, Comm. Cmte. members Tony Nuspl and Cindy Stevens, and manager of the Outreach Cmte. George Schaefer.
We discussed our expanding Texting program to reach out to as many Rogers County Democrats as possible, expanding Precinct representation, creating an advertising program, and plans on staffing the office once campaigning begins in earnest and there are yard signs and lit to distribute.
If you’re interested in participating in the Democrats’ plans, you can contact George Schaefer about the texting program and Sharon Douthitt about helping to staff the office.
February meeting largest in five years!
Our meeting on Thursday, February 29 in the Rogers County Building was our most successful since before the pandemic. We used to routinely have forty or more attendees, but that all changed in the last few years. On Thursday we had thirty attendees, several first-timers, and an involved and attentive crowd.
In addition to Brandon Wald speaking, we had a thorough and engaging Zoom presentation by CD1 Affirmative Action officer Rachel Morse. The presentation was in preparation for the Dem State Convention happening in Ardmore in April.
We’re also gearing up our texting program. The Virtual Phone Bank we tried back in November and December were non-starters for the simple reason that folks don’t answer their phones these days, so we’re redirecting our focus to texting, and we’re looking for volunteers to step up and reach out to underrepresented precincts.
Our meetings are held the last Thursday of the month. Please plan on attending! This will definitely be an interesting year!
